Corrections and Context
Remembering responsibly includes correcting the record.
Remembering responsibly includes correcting the record.
If a date, recollection, interpretation, attribution, or factual statement is found to be inaccurate, the material may be updated. A material correction should leave a readable note explaining what changed.
Memory and documents
Memory is part of the record, but memory is not perfect.
Dates, details, and interpretations may be revised when additional context becomes available.
Revisions
Revision notes can distinguish a correction, added context, or a changed definition. A working idea can change without its earlier uncertainty being erased.
Correction is part of preservation.
