J = 0: the static reference point

If everything around us changes, what allows us to recognize that change at all?

In I Am the Rememberer, J = 0 represents the static reference point. “Zero” does not mean nothing exists. It means no internal change is occurring within the chosen reference state. That unchanged state becomes the anchor against which motion, difference, memory, and continuity can be recognized.

J = 0 is my proposed philosophical and conceptual framework. It is not an established law of physics or a recognized scientific constant.

From philosophy to a practical application

J = 0 began as a question about continuity and reference. Stasrift turns that question into a testable engineering condition.

In Stasrift, J = 0 becomes the Jameson Zero Condition: a claim that something is “unchanged” is meaningful only when the observer, boundary, state, and comparison are defined.

Stasrift is one place where the larger idea became operational. That software application does not define the full philosophical meaning of J = 0 in the book.

Observation before certainty

I begin with what I could observe. An observation is not the whole of an event.

Context belongs with the record

A moment without context may mislead. Where I was, what I knew, and what I could not access matter.

Memory requires responsibility

Preservation is not simply keeping everything. Selection matters. Privacy matters. Correction matters.

Silence contains information

An absence of speech is not an absence of thought, communication, attention, or presence.

Systems shape experience

Rules, interfaces, technologies, and environments change what people can perceive and do.

Access can differ

People can occupy the same environment without receiving the same information.

Scale changes meaning

Something small from one position can be significant from another. The position belongs in the account.

Questions may outlive answers

Not every observation needs an immediate conclusion. Some questions remain.
